16 juli 2013 – Op onze tweede dag in Warschau zijn we ’s ochtends vertrokken richting het concentratiekamp Treblinka.
Treblinka ligt rechts boven Warschau richting de Russische grens.
We hadden niet veel verwachtingen van het kamp maar eenmaal daar aangekomen zagen we al snel dat dit toch een erg indrukwekkende plaats was.
De weg er naartoe was niet zo best dit omdat het kamp erg afgelegen lag. Maar gelukkig was het meer dan de moeite waard.
Het kamp bestond uit twee delen namelijk Treblinka I en Treblinka II.
Treblinka I was het werkkamp en Treblinka II was het vernietigingskamp.
Van het werkkamp was alleen nog de steengroeve over, door de grootte hiervan konden we afleiden hoe zwaar het werk geweest moet zijn voor de mensen die hier gevangen gezeten hebben.
Het vernietigingskamp was met de grond gelijk gemaakt. Dit omdat de Duitsers hun sporen uit wilden wissen. De funderingen van de barakken waren nog wel zichtbaar en d.m.v. bordjes kon je zien wat de functie van het gebouw geweest was.
Naast de twee delen van het kamp was er een indrukwekkend monument wat hier boven ook op de foto te zien is.
Om ook een beetje te kunnen ontspannen zijn we na het bezoek van het kamp naar twee grote winkelcentra’s gegaan in Warschau. Hier hebben we enkele uren doorgebracht waarna we voldaan teruggekeerd zijn bij het hotel.
